Mood Music-==Civil War==--
Some REALLY great mood music. You may remember the hoopla over the HUGE documentry shown on PBS about the Civil War and it's Soundtrack (Take a look in the Suggested Viewing Section for the videos. It's LONG but it's really GOOD.)
Will the Circle Be Unbroken, a 2 disk set of Civil War era folk tunes. ((Rick "ToadPooka")).
Big battle scenes? Singing 'round the campfire? In need of gloomy background music? Glory is a good bet I think.
--=="Western"==--
ANYTHING by Ennio Morricone, this guy did the music for just about every Spaghetti Western that's worth talkin' 'bout. (A favorite of the Deadlands Listsrv is the only song with vocals, Gringo Like Me.)
THE music to have around for your gunslingers. The Good, The Bad, & The UGLY Soundtrack.
Here's a collection of music from that staple of the Western Movie diet, The Spaghetti Western (Vol. 1)
There's this movie called The Cowboys. If you've seen it let me know what you think of it and it's soundtrack.
Selections from Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash by the Pogues. ("The track 'A Pistol for Paddy Garcia' is the best dueling music I've heard." - Rich "ToadPooka")
The Desperado Soundtrack is recomended by just about everybody on the Deadlands Listsrv.
Dust to Dust by Steve Roach & Roger King. "The album's stated purpose was something to the effect of 'We wanted to evoke the ghosts of the wild west'! While most of this album is a more modern composition, some of it is downright evokin'! There just seems
to be something that synchs with my game at times, because a particularly spooky or western-y track will come on at just right moment, and ... BOO!" - Mark K
Once Upon a Time in the West Soundtrack - Pete R.
--==CattlePunk==--
Just about anything by a group called 16 Horsepower. ("Apparently, there was recently a musical trend
called 'Cattlepunk' The first time I heard that word being used
in the mass media was in a newspaper article proclaiming the death of Cattlepunk. 16 HP is a great example of this genre-just
Western enough, with some true-grit punk tossed in to liven it up." - Rich "ToadPooka")
More Niel Young then the mind can comfortably encompas is the Soundtrack to Dead Man. A movie starring Jonny Depp as a guy going through a Deadlands'esque nightmare scenerio. Highly Recomended Viewing.("The soundtrack is completely electric guitar, heavy distortion, western riffs. Goes in the "Cattlepunk" vein of 16 Horsepower.") ((You CAN get this Soundtrack in CD, Cassette, AND VINYL!!!))
Anything by Fields of the Nephilim. "They're a gothic band heavily into the Western genre (they used to do gigs in Stetsons and dusters.)" - Pete R.
The Revolting Cocks: "One of Al Jourgensen's (of Ministry) many side projects, this band is VERY Texan. I'm working an NPC Ranger based on Al into my campaign. I'll
play RevCo every time he shows up." - Rich "Toadpooka"
--==African American==--
The multi-part TV movie that made history of the history of the African American Slave, ROOTS. From the Real Audio clips they have on CDnow it sounds like it'll have some good stuff if your running storylines in N'awlines.
Amistad will also have some good stuff for dramatic background.
Will the Circle Be Unbroken, a modist collection of Gospel hyms.

Vintage Sound Effects. I'm not exactly sure what these people consider "vintage" to be, or what sounds are on the CD. (I haven'tseen a listing yet.) But if all else fails and their out of "period" you could creatively apply them toany widgets your posse has ordered from Smith and Robards.
Sound Effects: Animals Background Music.
The soundtracks to the Myst and Riven games... "Good, 'empty space filled with mystery' music... Tried it at my game last night and it filled in the gaps usefully." - Mark K
The soundtrack to the X-Files movie.. "While there are some strains which are a little too-familiar, much of it is dramatic and suspenseful... And in my game, where the PCs are a sort of investigation team (well, in the beginning, anyway...) it fits when they are explorin' the strange goin's on..." - Mark K
--==KEEPIN' M'EYE OUT FER THESE==--
Soundtrack: Long Riders ("A perfect blend of authentic period music with a wierd, moody flavor." - Marshal Rolf)
PEG's Weird Wailings
The computer game Outlaws has audio CD tracks of the music they use in the game. - Allan Seyberth
